Types of Implants

1.Endosteal Implants

  • The most common type.
  • Involve surgically placing the implant directly into the jawbone.
  • Shaped like small screws, cylinders, or plates.
  • Uses:
    • Replace single teeth
    • Support multiple-tooth bridges
    • Anchor dentures

Subperiosteal Implants

2.Subperiosteal Implants

Typically used when patients have insufficient healthy jawbone to support endosteal implants.

Feature a metal frame that rests on top of the jawbone, just below the gum line.

Posts attached to this frame protrude through the gums, providing anchorage points for the replacement teeth.

3.Zygomatic Implants

The least common and most complex type of implant.

Used when extreme jawbone deterioration is present.

The implant is placed into the cheekbone rather than the jawbone.

5.Implant Overdentures

Implants are used to anchor removable dentures for enhanced stability and function.

Implant-supported bridges:

6.Implant-supported bridges:

Implants replace missing teeth and serve as anchors to support dental bridges.

7.Important Considerations:

The best implant type for you depends on various factors like your jawbone health, the number of teeth missing, and your budget. A dentist or oral surgeon will carefully evaluate your situation to determine the most suitable option.
